Many people who are brave enough to try sky diving find it very addictive. Enthusiasts say that the feeling of free-falling cannot be described or compared to any other feeling in the world. The state of Nevada and the Las Vegas area are particularly popular for skydiving because of the breath-taking views of the beautiful scenery that can only be seen from the air. But it is important to understand the risks involved and to take skydiving classes from certified professional schools.
AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) is the quickest way to become a qualified skydiver. Skydiving instructors can teach students in a few short hours how to use their parachutes, what to expect when they fall, how to land safely and how to manage fear. The instructor is also harnessed to the student for the first skydive to ensure safety and a pleasant experience. There are many skydiving schools in Nevada with qualified, licensed teachers and gear — and even planes — for prospective students to rent.
There are many myths about skydiving that mostly originated from movie stunts. For instance, you can, in fact, breathe during a free-fall – otherwise, you would be unconscious before you can open your parachute! And, unlike famous scenes in movies, you also CAN’T simply cling to another person (unless harnessed) while skydiving because the force of the parachute opening is powerful enough to fling another person off.
Most sky diving planes cruise at about 10,000 to 12,000 feet above ground, and skydivers have about 35 seconds to free-fall before pulling the toggle on their parachutes and floating down to earth. Most modern parachutes are equipped to open with a computerized activation device in case the skydiver has difficulty with the toggle. Everyone feels some fear at the first jump, but when the correct procedure is followed, skydiving can be a wonderful experience!
