Derek Fisher suffered a bruised pelvis after falling down during the first quarter of the Jazz’s pre-season game against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
Utah guard Fisher run to the basket and collided with Indiana forward Jermaine O’Neal while attempting a shot with 7:09 left in the quarter. Fisher was whistled for an offensive foul. But he hit his back and head on the floor. The player remained on the floor for several minutes before being brought to the Jazz locker room. Jazz spokeswoman Cindy Edman announced that Fisher was taken to the hospital shortly after the game for additional X-rays of his pelvis because X-rays made at Conseco Fieldhouse were unclear and insufficient to have a definitive diagnosis. Local newspapers reported also that Fisher will be examined again on Tuesday when the Jazz will return to Salt Lake City.
However Edman already announced Fisher has a bruised pelvis. Edman also added that there was no immediate timetable for the return of Fisher. The player still needs to have further tests in order to know the accurate severity of his injure. But the coach does not expect the player to be able to be back before several weeks.
With the loss of Fisher, it raises concerns about the depth in Utah’s young backcourt. Behind Fisher and Deron Williams there are two rookies Dee Brown and Brian Chase. Analysts predict that the Jazz are very likely to get a veteran player to replace fisher. But coach Edman explained that the two players have great potentials. Both players are scheduled to be starter. Both players have to show their ability on the first games. No decision of replacing them will occur in the first games.
