What is a golf tournament?
Golfers participate to play 18 holes of golf and win prizes for best score, longest drive, worst score, etc. They get a good meal before and after playing. Generally the golf tournament is nothing but having a good game of golf. The game can either be in stroke-play format or the match-play format.

How can money be raised by golf tournaments?
Being the organizer, you can charge registration fees which cover Greens fees, cart rental, Lunch/Dinner. You can also include a donation to the foundation to per person fees. The most effective way to get a substantial income from the event is through sponsorships, contests and raffles.

Selection of the course
The kind of course chosen for the tournament can vary depending upon the level of the golfers participating and the purpose. If you are organizing for the purpose of generating money and to have fun, there is no need of finalizing a difficult course as the venue. The two significant aspects are the cost and the staff.

Pricing
If the per person cost for greens fees and cart are $50 and $20 for the dinner, you can charge $80. Never charge too much per player. The real way to make money is by sponsorships and raffles.

Staff at the Venue
As an organizer, you will be dealing with the staff at the course on regular basis. You might need their help before, during and after the event. They must be helpful and Courteous.

If the cost is too high and the staff is not helpful, you are advised to change the venue.

Registering players for your tournament is the most difficult part. Make sure that the deadline is given before two weeks from the time the golf course needs a final count. Also make sure that if a player cancels his registration after the deadline, you don’t have to refund. This can avoid last minute cancellations which turn out to be a nightmare.
 

Sponsors
Sponsorships must be obtained to help offset the cost of running a golf tournament by providing money, services or prizes. You can get sponsorships from friends and business associates

Souvenirs and Mementos
You can give away complimentary gifts to each player on arrival. It can consist anything from snacks, t-shirt, bag of tees or a ball marker. You can encourage your sponsors to give away some of their promotional items. This will gain publicity to them and also save your money.
