In most other sports you have probably heard of the many benefits provided from resistance training. In golf though it is not as common to know how resistance training can help benefit your golf game.
Resistance training is a form of anaerobic training which can include the use of a weight machine, weight training or resistance band workouts. It is training with the use of some form of resistance. This type of training will increase muscle size, strength and endurance.
There are several aspects of your game that need to come together for you to play at peak performance. Having the correct clubs, hitting the right golf balls, wearing the best fitting golf shoes and staying hydrated throughout the round can all add significant gains to your performance.
Then you mix in a little resistance training in to the equation and your golf game will elevate to the next level. Even if you can only train 3 or 4 days a week for 15-20 minutes each time, it will help big time. The added strength and fitness is like icing on the cake.
Endurance is one of the side affects that comes from resistance training. This will help you eliminate the fatigue that you may experience on the last several holes of a round. Eliminating this fatigue will also help reduce your handicap significantly.
If John Daly was as fit and healthy as a Tiger Woods, could you imagine how much more successful John would be? I have seen several golfers add resistance training to their lives and make massive changes in the way they play golf.
Just the slightest improvement at the pro level of golf can make a huge difference in paydays. If you make these slight adjustments to your game, imagine the look on your friends face the next round that you play and your game has improved big time. It is a beautiful feeling, trust me.
Another side affect of resistance training, on top of strength and endurance has to do with your posture. This training can assist your posture, which will help eliminate any weaknesses with your stance and/or swing, provided you have already been working on your swing style.
