Cincinnati Reds Get Bubba Crosby

The Reds have signed Bubba Crosby for a one year contract and seem to have succeeded in adding some depth to their outfield. The contract is worth $400,000.

By offering this Major League contract to Crosby, Cincinnati has protected him on its 40 man roster. However, Crosby is not assured of a spot on the 25 man roster for the Opening Day 2007. Bubba Crosby who is 31 years old will go for the Spring Training and will have to compete for a spot of a reserve outfielder.

Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky expressed his happiness in signing Crosby by informing that the Reds were getting a player who has been on winning teams and knows to play the hard; and who can play in the three different outfield positions.

Crosby is a left handed hitter and has spent the last three seasons between Yankees and Triple A Columbus. With the Yankees he averaged .207 with one home run and six RBIs. While with Columbus he batted .238.

Crosby was originally the part of the Dodgers organization before breaking into the Major League in 2003. His career statistics for 205 big league games he has played are .216 batting average and .255 on base percentage. He became a six year Minor League free agent after the 2003 season.

Wayne Krivsky commented that Crosby knows the kind of hitter he is and which part of game he needs to work on. The Reds were interested in him and decided to sign him by offering the contract to him.
