Jason Webster, Falcons’ cornerback, has torn his groin muscle is expected to be out of the game for a month. This does not augur well for Atlanta as it has further depleted their defensive backfield.
Webster was injured during practice and the torn muscle showed up in an MRI. The Falcons are now short in the secondary. Rookie cornerback Jimmy Williams was named as Webster’s replacement but rolled his ankle and had to leave the field.
DeAngelo Hall, the Pro Bowl cornerback, also missed practice on account of strained hamstring. This was followed by a near scare when Allen Rossum rammed the front of his helmet into Omare Lowe’s knee as they were working out against the scout team. However, there was no cause for alarm as both were okay. Both players have major roles to play now.
Rookie Williams is hoping to be able to return to practice in the next couple of days so that he can work in Webster’s position.
John Abraham the right end is still recovering from a torn abdominal muscle and will probably be out for another three weeks. While middle linebacker Ed Hartwell will be out for the seventh consecutive game because of swollen knees. While the ten year old veteran Kevin Mathis sustained a neck injury which was identified as a fractured vertebra ending his career.
When Williams returns to the Falcons, it would give them a major emotional boost. Specially since teammates are wondering what else can go wrong now that he’s been gone.
